The Alder Fire started as a lightning strike high on Symmetry Spire in the fall of 1999. The fire smoldered for one month before the winds changed and the fire moved down slope almost reaching nearby Jenny Lake Lodge. Notice the lodge pole pine regrowth and dead snags still standing today. small fires generate a mosaic of mature and immature forests providing valuable habitat for wildlife. Visit here in the future and notice the changes.
